The Assam region of India is synonymous with truly exceptional tea. This area of India is where the tea plant (camelia sinensis) is indigenous to so it stands to reason that it thrives there. The unique climate and rich soils give Assam it's distinctive, rich, delicious flavour and adds that 'malty' element particular Assam tea. Assam's weather is hot and very humid which creates the ideal "greenhouse-like" conditions that the tea plant loves. In terms of production, Assam is the largest tea growing region in the world. That's not to say that all tea grown there is of the highest quality and MonTeas will not stock substandard teas.
